You have questions. I have answers.

original paintings

Are all your paintings originals?

Yes! Every original painting is a one-of-a-kind artwork created by me, Callie Gray. No two are ever the same. Each painting evolves as I work, with its own colours, marks, layers, energy and personality.

Basically, once it’s painted, there’s only one of it in the world. Pretty cool, right?

What materials do you use?

I work primarily with high-quality acrylic and oil paints, along with mixed media and collage.

I love building paintings up in layers — adding colour, texture, marks, shapes and all those little unexpected things that happen along the way. It’s part of what gives each painting its character.

Are your original paintings archival?

Yes. My originals are finished with two coats of professional-quality varnish to help protect the surface from UV light, dust, dirt and minor moisture.

Like any piece of original art, though, your painting will be happiest if you treat it kindly. I recommend keeping it out of prolonged direct sunlight and away from excessive humidity or extreme changes in temperature.

How should I care for my original painting?

The most important thing is to hang it somewhere that makes you happy!

For the practical stuff: avoid prolonged direct sunlight, excessive humidity and extreme temperature changes. If it needs a little dusting, gently use a soft, dry cloth.

Please don't use cleaning products, solvents or sprays on the artwork. A little TLC goes a long way.

How are originals paintings shipped?

I take a lot of care with getting your painting safely from my studio to you.

Smaller and mid-sized paintings are carefully packaged and shipped on their stretcher bars. For very large paintings — generally over 36 × 48 inches — I may remove the canvas from its stretcher bars and ship it rolled in a sturdy protective tube.

This is actually a great thing, rather than a compromise!

Rolling a very large painting makes it safer to transport, considerably more cost-effective to ship, and much more environmentally friendly than building a large wooden crate or custom shipping container for it.

Once it arrives, the canvas can be professionally re-stretched onto new stretcher bars by a framer or art installer. It's a straightforward process, and I can help you find someone if you need guidance.

I'll always let you know on the individual artwork listing if a painting will be shipped rolled.

Can I see your work in person?

Absolutely! If you'd like to see my paintings in real life — which I highly recommend because photographs never quite capture all the layers, texture and colour — there are a few ways to find me.

I take part in outdoor art shows and festivals throughout the year, including shows in Ontario and Florida, depending on the season. I also regularly take part in the Elora Fergus Studio Tour, where you can come and see my work and visit artists in their studios.

And yes, you're welcome to visit my studio too! If you're in the area and would like to see what's currently available, just get in touch with me first and we'll arrange a time.

Some of my work is also represented through gallery partnerships, so you may find selected originals available to view at a gallery.

I'll keep upcoming shows and events listed on my website, or you can always get in touch and ask where you can see my work.

Do you take commissions?

I do — but I only take on a small number each year.

framed canvas prints

What is a Giclée print?

Giclée (pronounced zhee-clay) is a professional fine-art printing process that uses high-resolution archival pigment inks to reproduce artwork with beautiful colour, detail and tonal range.

It's a much more sophisticated process than your average poster printing, allowing a wide range of colours and subtle details from the original painting to be reproduced beautifully.

And here's the bit I really like: your print is made especially for you.

Every Callie Gray Art print is printed to order rather than mass-produced and stored in a warehouse somewhere. Your artwork doesn't exist as a finished print until you order it.

What kind of inks are used?

My prints are produced using water-based HP latex inks and UV protection, designed for professional fine-art reproduction.

They are non-toxic and contain enhanced light stabilisers, giving them considerably more durability than traditional dye-based inks.

Under ideal conditions and with proper care, these prints can retain their colour for 100+ years.

So yes — this is the kind of print you can enjoy for a very, very long time.

Are your prints archival?

Yes. I use archival-quality canvas and pigment inks specifically chosen for long-term fine-art reproduction. They are scratch, crack, and warp resistant.

Of course, no artwork likes sitting in blazing sunlight for years! Keeping your print away from prolonged direct sunlight and excessive humidity will help keep those colours looking gorgeous for as long as possible.

What are the canvas prints like?

My canvas prints are produced on a finely textured, artist-grade poly-cotton canvas with a beautiful matte/satin finish.

The subtle texture gives the artwork that lovely real painting feeling, while still allowing the colour and detail to reproduce beautifully.

What are the canvas prints stretched over?

The canvas is stretched over a sturdy wooden support. Materials are sustainably sourced.

The wooden support has a curved profile that minimises contact with the face of the canvas, helping to prevent impression marks and surface cracking.

What kind of frame does the canvas print come in?

My framed canvas prints are finished with a contemporary wood satin-finish floating frame in either black, white, oak or dark oak. Solid wooden frame is from renewable sources, 4 cm / 1.57"  deep.

I love a floating frame because it gives the artwork a little breathing room. The canvas sits slightly inside the frame, creating a subtle shadow gap around the edges.

The result is clean, modern and gallery-inspired — without the frame shouting louder than the painting.

How do I clean and care for my framed canvas print?

Easy! Treat it like the artwork it is.

Keep your framed canvas away from prolonged direct sunlight, excessive humidity and extreme changes in temperature. To keep the frame looking its best, simply dust it gently with a soft, dry cloth.

For the canvas itself, use a clean, soft, dry cloth or very soft brush to gently remove dust. Don't use water, cleaning products, sprays or solvents on the canvas or directly on the artwork.

And please don't press or rub the canvas surface — it doesn't need polishing!

With a little care, your framed print should stay looking beautiful for many years.

Where are your prints produced?

I work with Printumo, a professional print-on-demand company, to produce my fine art prints and framed artwork.

I chose print-on-demand because I don't believe in making piles of artwork that nobody has asked for yet!

Instead, your print is produced once you've placed your order. That means your particular piece is made especially for you, rather than sitting in a warehouse waiting for someone to come along and buy it.

Printumo has production facilities in the EU, UK, USA, Canada, and Australia. When a customer places an order, it is automatically routed to the nearest eligible facility, helping reduce delivery time, shipping distance and costs.

Is your print production environmentally responsible?

This is one of the things I really like about the print-on-demand model.

Because your print isn't made until someone orders it, there isn't a huge inventory of unwanted artwork sitting around or eventually ending up as waste.

Printumo also works with print partners that have policies around responsible sourcing, labour standards and supply-chain traceability.

It's not about pretending that producing and shipping things has zero environmental impact — it doesn't. It's about making thoughtful choices where we can.

shipping & delivery

Do you ship worldwide?

Yes! I love the idea of my paintings ending up in homes all over the world.

I ship artwork internationally from my studio in Canada or Florida, depending on the time of year.

There are a small number of destinations I can't ship to because of international trade restrictions and embargoes.

How long does shipping take?

Original paintings

Please allow up to 3 business days for me to prepare, package and dispatch an original painting.

Once it's on its way, international delivery typically takes around 10–21 business days, depending on where you are and how quickly it moves through customs.

Fine art prints

Because prints are made to order, the delivery time includes production, quality control, packaging and shipping.

Typical delivery times are approximately:

  • USA: 4–9 business days
  • Canada: 4–9 business days
  • UK: 3–7 business days
  • Europe: 3–7 business days
  • Australia: 5–10 business days
  • Rest of world: 3–4 weeks
Will I receive tracking?

Absolutely. Your order will be shipped with tracking so you can follow its journey.

One little warning: international tracking can sometimes go mysteriously quiet for a few days while a package is travelling between hubs or going through customs.

Don't panic! This doesn't necessarily mean your package is lost. Tracking will usually start moving again once it reaches the next stage of its journey.

Is shipping free?

Fine art prints: Free shipping is available to 60+ countries.

Original Paintings: Shipping varies depending on their size and destination and will be shown at checkout.

customs, duties & taxes

Will I have to pay customs or duties when my artwork arrives?

International orders are processed using Delivered Duty Paid (DDP) terms where available.

Any applicable import duties, taxes and customs fees are calculated and collected at checkout, so you shouldn't be hit with an unexpected customs or brokerage bill when your artwork arrives.

Why is the price at checkout higher than the artwork price?

Depending on where you live, your checkout total may include local taxes, VAT/GST and applicable import duties.

These charges are collected at checkout so that, where DDP applies, you know the full landed cost before your artwork heads your way.

No nasty surprise from the courier demanding money at your door!

returns & damaged artwork

Can I return a fine art print?

Because fine art prints and framed canvas pieces are made to order in the size you choose, I can't accept returns, exchanges or cancellations simply because you've changed your mind or ordered the wrong size.

So please have a good look at those dimensions before you hit buy. I've learned that what looks enormous on a screen can sometimes be surprisingly different on an actual wall!

What if my package appears damaged when it arrives?

Please take a few photographs of the exterior packaging and, if possible, record the unboxing.

It may feel a bit excessive at the time, but those photos can be incredibly helpful if we need to make a shipping claim.

If there is a problem with your order, please contact me within 48 hours of delivery for shipping-related damage.
